If you read our recent post, ‘Zipjet’s Top 5: Women’s Wardrobe Staples’ and felt left out, then this one’s for you.

At Zipjet, we know everyone has their own style, and it’s part of what makes us all unique. But developing your personal style has to start somewhere, and we always recommend starting with some solid building blocks.

In this article, we’ll list our top 5 favourite men’s wardrobe staples. Let us know what you think!

1. A neutral t-shirt

This may seem beyond basic, but hear me out. What looks better than a clean white or black t-shirt with a perfect fit, paired with a pair of jeans and a stylish jacket?

Throw on your sunglasses, and you’re basically James Dean.

But in all honesty, a well-fitting t-shirt looks good on everyone. Scoop neck, v-neck, crew neck – the choice is up to you.

As a wardrobe essential, you can build classicly stylish outfits with minimal effort.

2. A tailored suit

The last time an ill-fitting, baggy suit was in fashion was the 80’s. And we all know it still looked terrible, popularity aside.

A tailored suit can instantly take your style from a 2 to a 10.

Tailoring a suit works for all body types – that’s the beauty of it. When you take the time to get your suit custom fit to your body, it will immediately become more flattering.

You’ll also give the impression that you put time and effort into your appearance, which can have a positive effect on your professional, social and personal relationships.

3. Jeans that fit

Jeans are one of the most versatile pieces in any closet – don’t you want them to enhance your look instead of detracting from it?

However, as a universal wardrobe staple, the definition of ‘jeans that fit’ can differ for individual styles.

Some men feel great in tighter jeans, while others prefer a roomier fit. At the end of the day, you want your fit to be a conscious choice.

Don’t be afraid to have your measurements taken in the store, as the attendants are trained to help you find the perfect fit for your unique style.

When you buy jeans that are simply the wrong size, they’ll be too big or small in the wrong places. This is what ends up making jeans look frumpy and unfashionable – and you deserve better.

4. A casual blazer

A good blazer can transform the entire vibe of an outfit, taking it from daytime casual to nighttime dressy in an instant.

Tweed, linen, velvet – the choice is completely up to you. And with the wide variety of blazers available, there’s one for every fashion sense and social occasion.

Plus – having a reliable blazer on hand is the best way to be prepared for a last minute dinner invitation or date.

5. A neutral-coloured overcoat

When the cooler weather rolls around, don’t let a tired, baggy coat ruin you new fashion choices!

Finding a neutral coat with a good fit will round off any outfit in the colder months.

From an edgy leather jacket to a refined wool peacoat, finding the ideal coat is vital.

Once you’ve found the jacket that speaks to you, throw on a scarf and you’re ready to get out there!

Honourable mention: Sunglasses

Sunglasses are far more important than one might think, and they’re a great way to express your style in a more subtle way.

You may love a certain shape, but does that shape love you back? Make sure the size and frame of the glasses fit well to your face shape.

You don’t want to walk around London unwittingly looking like the Terminator.

We hope some of these style staples appealed to you and inspired you to take time for yourself & invest in your appearance.

Because when you feel good about yourself, people notice.
